Carving Meaning from Wood: Greenwood Ladles and Spoons
November 7th, 2008 to November 9th, 2008
Where Tatamagouche Centre, Tatamagouche NS
Over the course of the weekend, transform a piece of green (unseasoned) wood into a finished ladle or spoon. You will develop your greenwood carving skills and deepen your creative process to reveal what lives inside the wood. Develop your craftsmanship, participate in circle talks about value-added activities, and use writing, drawing and photography to document and enrich your work. All levels of experience are welcome.
Cost: $330 (tuition, all meals & accommodation); $250 commuter rate (tuition and meals only)
Bursaries are available, please ask when registering.
Note: If participants have chisels, please bring them. If not, they will be available to borrow or purchase during the workshop. Wood will be provided. If you have a woodworking project on the go, you can bring it along as well.
Leadership
Mike Oudemans Mike Oudemans is a fine artist, woodblock printmaker, book artist, and accomplished tranditional wood worker. He studied commercial illustration at Syracuse University, printmaking at Metchosin International School of Fine Art, and privately with professional print makers in Canada and U.S. See his recent work at Trees Gallery in Mahone Bay (www.treesgallery.com/artists/). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ron Kelly Ron is a member of the Tatamagouche Centre Program Resource Group. He is also an ecologist and educator.
