First Nations Forestry Program

First Nations Forestry Program - National

Integral to the social, spiritual and cultural lives of First Nations peoples, the forest also serves as a foundation on which they can develop an economic base while maintaining traditional connections.

The First Nations Forestry Program focuses on improving economic conditions in communities while giving full consideration to the principles of sustainable forest management.

The Program includes the following four objectives:

  • enhancing capacity to sustainably manage First Nations forest lands;
  • enhancing capacity to operate and participate in forest-based development opportunities and their benefits;
  • advancing knowledge in sustainable forest management and forest-based development;
  • enhancing the institutional capacity of First Nations at the provincial and territorial level to support participation in the forest-based economy.
